SCOM 2012 – Sharepoint 2010 Discovery Run As failures on servers that do not belong to the Sharepoint Farm

November 15, 2012

I had an issue today with discovering a Sharepoint 2010 environment with SCOM 2012. There are plenty clear descriptions on how to discover and monitor the Sharepoint environment. The posts i find most usefull are:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2012/04/16/kb-configuring-the-sharepoint-2010-management-pack-for-system-center-operations-manager.aspx
http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jcowan/archive/2012/07/10/how-to-importing-the-sharepoint-2010-mp-for-scom-2012.aspx

The problem i had is that several servers are discovered to have some kind of Sharepoint role while these are not members of the Sharepoint farm i need to monitor. The solution to this is to edit the SharePointMP.Config file and specify the Sharepoint servers in your farm:

<Association Account=”<sharepoint runas account description>” Type=”Agent”>
<Machine Name=”<server01″ />
<Machine Name=”server02″ />
<Machine Name=”server03″ />
</Association>

Now run the disovery job again and all will be fine!
