SCOM 2012 – Runs in evaluation mode. Do not forget to enter the product key!

October 24, 2012

When installing SCOM 2012 the wizard does not prompt you for a license key. I find that this is an easy thing to forget. Do you have the product key inserted in your SCOM installation yet? You can check this by opening the admin console and go to Help –> About.

If the version shows Eval you probably did not insert the product key or forgot to restart the data access service.
Getting the license key in place needs a little attention. You need to log in with an account that has local admin rights. Run the operations PowerShell as administrator and enter this command:

Set-SCOMLicense -ProductId "yourlicensekey“

Run this in a PowerShell as administrator on all management servers and restart the Data Access Service. Now the version will show up as Retail.
